How to Use Mirror Mode to Fix a Downswing Slide

Use Mirror Mode and a simple reference line outside your lead foot to spot and reduce sliding during the downswing.

How to Use Mirror Mode to Fix a Downswing Slide

Mirror Mode is a simple way to get instant visual feedback on your golf swing. One helpful use is checking whether you are sliding toward the target during the downswing.

A slide happens when your lower body moves too far laterally toward the target instead of rotating and staying more centered. By drawing a reference line just outside your lead foot, you can see whether your body crosses that line during the downswing.

What You Need

  • Mirror Mode enabled
  • The line drawing tool
  • A clear view of your setup and lead foot

Step-by-Step: Set Up the Slide Check

  1. Open Mirror Mode.
Set yourself up so you can see your stance clearly on the screen.

  2. Select the line drawing tool.
Use the tool to draw a straight vertical line on the screen.

  3. Place the line just outside your lead foot.
Get into your golf posture, then position the line so it sits slightly outside your lead foot, on the target side.

  4. Make a slow downswing rehearsal.
As you move into the downswing, watch whether your body moves across the line.

  5. Use the line as your boundary.
If you move across the line, you are likely sliding toward the target. Work on feeling as though you stay farther behind the line through the downswing.

What to Feel

If sliding is your natural movement, staying behind the line may feel exaggerated at first. You might feel like you are keeping your lead hip or body much farther back than usual. That is normal. Mirror Mode helps you compare the feel with what is actually happening.

Practice Tip

Start with slow rehearsals before making full-speed swings. The goal is to train your body to recognize the difference between sliding past the line and rotating without crossing it.

Key Checkpoint

During the downswing, your body should not move noticeably past the vertical line outside your lead foot. Use the line as a visual guide to reduce excessive lateral movement and improve your downswing control.
