How to Play the Handy Golf Iron Ball Strike Game
Ball striking is one of the most important skills in golf, especially with your irons. The HandyGolf Iron Ball Strike Game helps you track where the ball contacts the clubface so you can monitor strike quality and work toward more centred contact.
There are three simple ways to capture strike location:
- Dry-wipe or whiteboard marker pen
- Powdered foot spray
- Clubface impact tape
After each shot, use the mark on the clubface to tap the matching strike location in the HandyGolf app, then press Next to record the shot and continue.
Method 1: Marker Pen Method
A dry-wipe or whiteboard marker is one of the easiest and clearest ways to track strike location with irons.
Steps
- Take a dry-wipe or whiteboard marker pen.
- Draw a small dot or circle on the golf ball.
- Place the ball so the marker dot is facing the clubface at address.
- Hit your shot.
- Check the clubface. The dot should transfer from the ball onto the clubface.
- In the HandyGolf app, tap the area that matches the strike location. For example, if the dot is in the middle but slightly high, tap the middle-high section.
- Press Next.
- Repeat the process for the next shot.
Tip
This method is clean, quick, and usually very easy to read on iron faces.
Method 2: Foot Spray Method
Powdered foot spray can also show strike location by leaving an impact mark on the face.
Steps
- Use a powdered foot spray.
- Apply a couple of light sprays to the clubface.
- Let the spray dry before hitting.
- Hit your shot.
- Look at the face to see where the ball removed the powder.
- Tap the matching strike area in the HandyGolf app.
- Press Next and continue.
Important Note
Foot spray can work well, especially on darker clubfaces, but it is often less reliable with irons. If the strike mark is difficult to see, use the marker pen or face tape method instead.
Method 3: Face Tape Method
Face tape is another effective way to capture exactly where the ball contacts the iron.
Steps
- Apply a piece of impact tape to the clubface.
- Hit a golf shot.
- Check the tape to see the ball mark.
- In the app, tap the matching strike location. For example, if the strike is low and toward the heel, tap the bottom-heel section.
- Press Next.
- Hit your next shot and continue recording.
Tip
After several shots, the tape can become crowded with marks. Replace it when the new strike location is no longer clear.
Which Method Should You Use?
All three methods can work, but for most players using irons:
- Best overall: Whiteboard marker pen
- Also very good: Face tape
- Sometimes useful: Powdered foot spray, especially on darker irons
The goal is to record each strike accurately in the HandyGolf app so you can monitor patterns, measure improvement, and train yourself to find the centre of the clubface more often.
